What Is Reenacting?

A Civil War Reenactment is as close as you can come to turning on a machine and traveling back in time. When you step onto the site, you are stepping back 150 years into history. The reenactors are dressed in exact reproductions of the uniforms worn in the Civil War, and they are trained in the battle tactics that were used. Although these hobbyists work as delivery drivers, lawyers, paramedics, and history professors during the week, on weekends they live as the soldiers lived, work as the soldiers worked, eat as the soldiers ate, and fight as the soldiers fought. Many reenactors have studied the Civil War in depth and are happy to answer questions from the public -- not just about battles, generals, and dates; but what it felt like to be there, and historic events that happened in your own back yard. In short, reenacting is a way to remember our past and honor the heroic deeds of our ancestors.

So how do you get started?
It's simple! Just fill out an enlistment form, or contact our captain! (If you're a lady, contact our Civilian Coordinator.) Not ready to jumpt in with with both feet? That's okay -- contact us and someone can try to meet you at the next reenactment to show you what it's like. We're sure you'll love it!
